What’s The Secret?

PART ONE

Every time I step out of my house. I end up asking someone, “ When’s your birthday?” Every time I step out of the house I ask someone “How long have you been married?” & “What’s the secret? “

*TRUE STORY:

** It's 2017....The events floor of City Center is bustling with preparations for an upcoming event. Among the various activities, an unexpected encounter with a charismatic and curious gentleman adds an intriguing twist to my day.

While fine-tuning the final details for the event in the ballroom, I noticed a well-dressed man, seemingly in his early 40s with a neatly groomed beard, stepping off the escalator. Despite not being my contact for the event, he approached me with a barrage of personal questions, ranging from my age to my relationship status.

Proudly, I revealed my recent engagement, displaying my ring with a grin. My coworker, mistaking him for our contact, joined us just as the man loudly commented on the size of my ring, calling it "TOO SMALL!" Although taken aback, I laughed it off, assuming he was joking. He then shifted his attention to my coworker's ring, praising its size and implying it signified true love, much to her delight.

Despite the man's attempts to belittle my ring, I confidently expressed my love for it, explaining how perfectly it suited me and how it brought me immense happiness. His disbelief was evident as he accused me of lying, which only served to increase my annoyance. Seizing an opportunity to escape, I pretended to check my phone and excused myself, leaving him to continue his conversation with my coworker.

The Revelation

However, the man soon followed me, settling into a lounge chair beside me. With my patience wearing thin, he inquired about my role at the hotel. I responded curtly, attempting to appear busy. It was then that he revealed his identity as a radio personality with a purported gift for uncovering people's purposes. Intrigued despite myself, I asked him what my purpose was. His answer was surprising: "Your purpose is to help people with their relationships."

Though I had never considered myself a giver of relationship advice, his words resonated with me. Perhaps there was some truth to his observation. Despite the odd encounter, I found myself contemplating the possibility that my understanding of real love could indeed be a guiding light for others.

The unexpected interaction with the bearded gentleman on the events floor of the Charlotte Marriott City Center was both unsettling and enlightening. While his approach was intrusive, his final revelation left me with a new perspective on my own abilities and potential purpose.
